Are beavers to blame for Fanno Creek Trail flooding?


Anyone who rides along the Fanno Creek Trail in Tigard should be familiar with the constant, year-round problem of flooding at Scholls Ferry Road.

The underpass began flooding shortly after it was built. Originally the problem was confined to rainy wintery months but now the section of trail under Scholls Ferry is submerged even in the middle of the summer.

A number of factors are to blame for this situation.

Recently I discovered a stack of flyers posted on a pole near the underpass. They appear to be the work of a citizen and trail user who’s urging others to contact the city and ask for a solution.

Sunday Parkways coming to SW Portland this weekend!

I’m incredibly excited because this weekend, for the first time ever, Sunday Parkways is coming to SW Portland! Although it’s not quite next-door to my house, it is within a reasonable ride from home for me for the first time in the event’s history.

I was going to tell you more about the Cycle Oregon weekend ride, because I have a lot more fun stuff to share (including a time-lapse video of both days), but something’s come up that I want to mention first.

Today at 9:20am (PDT) I’m going to be on OPB’s Think Out Loud to talk about “biking in non-urban areas.”

As you may recall, this isn’t the first time I’ve been able to speak about my experiences bicycling around Washington County on the radio.
